Our nice small internet-based needlework group held its first exhibition opening ceremony today. We met with quilters and non-quilter members at Szabó Ervin Library, Budapest, to check and see all the quilts stitched by us and to meet the group members.

There were surprisingly many of us, and it also turned out that the other  – behind the nick-names – ones has not the same shame as we imagined before.

There were several members who I had seen before, but some of them I hadn’t seen so it was a chance to put new faces to their names.

Since most of the members k ept their days in the Budai Castle on a country exhibition, we arrived almost in the same to this library. Everyone arrived with something in their sack so we were supplied with sweets, drinks and fruit as well.  The box of gift materials was full of quilted gifts , as well. It was good to have an additional ticket booklet since we bought more tickets than was previously expected.



By the time all the ticket were sold, it was time to officially open the exhibition. Maplesyrum, the original founder of the forum on Index made a short speech and she also thanked Violini for the organisation work as well. During the tombola almost everyone received something from the box, or if not, Juhizs gave them a piece from her skirt . I was so lucky to receive a nice quilted box, three magazines and wall hangers as well.  But I was not so lucky to receive the main tombola prize, which was Marta Neni’s quilted wall hanger.



I don’t know how long the others remained there but it was my time to leave the library.  Just before I left I checked how Ildibea’s bags were made, how Juhizs cut her skirt and tried memorising the names and connecting them to faces.  I hope I was successful in this.



It was good to see so many enthusiastic people, check all the nice quilts, ask about how the patchwork was made, receive comments on my work and receive feedback on my needlework as well. I feel it is worth doing this and also worth showing my quilts to the public as well.

As I write this post, on the forum Index we are organising the next year’s exhibition. I hope that it will contain as many needleworks as this year’s one. We have to have enough wall to hang the quilts.
